Question by Kristina Williams: Do you need a rental car in las vegas?
I am planning a vacation to Las Vegas and I was wondering if I need to get a rental car or if there is transportation available from the airport and to the airport because I know there are buses and taxis once you get to the strip.

You don’t need a rental car in Vegas unless you are planning to take a day trip outside the city. There are lots of ways to get around and you can take a taxi or a shuttle from the airport to your hotel. Here are your other options. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/get-around.php

if you are staying on the strip there are shuttles from the airport to the hotels on the strip (if your not staying on the strip, there are taxis to take you anywhere else. )and you can always take a taxi back to the airport. There are buses and trams and taxis that will take you on the strip, but if you plan to go off the strip, the taxis will take you where ever but it will be a 15-45 minute wait for the taxi.
My own personal opinion I say if you are staying on the strip, dont get a car, taxi, walk or bus it.
otherwise get a car, or have a lot of patience.
my favorite cab company is Delux taxi, they are usually the fastest

I advise against renting a car in Vegas. Don’t need one if you are staying on the strip and only plan on visiting the strip. Traffic is horrible and frankly speaking it is dangerous to drive in Vegas.
We are regular Las Vegas visitors and never rent a car unless we are going somewhere outside of the city. If you are saying on the Strip, you really don’t need one. Taxis from the airport are the way to go, there are shuttle but if you have two people the cost is often the same as a taxi, and the shuttles will be slower because they make several stops along the Strip.
There are several free transportation options around the strip, see this page: http://www.vegasfreebie.com/free-transportation.html
For the first trip to Vegas, I’d say that you definitely don’t need a car.
You can take a shuttle from the airport to the strip or downtown. You might have to walk to a few different shuttle companies depending on where you are staying and be prepared for someone to walk on the shuttle and try and sell you on a timeshare or discount tickets.
I like to stay on the strip personally. I choose a hotel with a monorail stop. The tickets run about $ 10 a day per person for unlimited rides. The monorail covers the strip from the Sahara down to the MGM. IMHO, this is the best way to cover the strip.
If you want to see downtown on Freemont St, I take a taxi. The last trip we stayed on the North End of the strip and a taxi to Freemont St. ran $ 15 to $ 20 each way.
For the first trip or two you will have all the fun you could possibly want on the strip or downtown where everything is close and transportation is cheap.
Since we have been to Vegas a few times, we are starting to make day trips from Vegas and we have been renting a car for that. Hoover Dam, Death Valley, and Valley of Fire are all nice day trips.
That’s really depend on what are you doing in Vegas. If you’re just staying here enjoy casino and party you don’t need one. I thought even if you would like to go to Grand Canyon there are many tours operators and you don’t need a car too.
