Try to get one of the GO rooms, which are nicer than the standard rooms. It's right in the middle of the strip, so you have an easy walk to lots of things to see and do. You won't be in any danger at any of the hotels on the strip. The only one in a somewhat shady area is Stratosphere, where you don't want to be walking around at night. Everything else is very safe and it's all well-patrolled by the police. Flamingo is a nice affordable hotel in a great location.
