Views of aging Vegas Strip hotels rumored to be on the upcoming implosion watch list PRIOR to the economic meltdown. Starting at the south end, the grand old Tropicana–owned now by Columbia-Sussex…..next is Ballys–owned by Harrahs Entertainment….the older T-shaped building her from the Strip (which was the original MGM back in the 70s) is slated for possible demolition. The blue-glowing Imperial Palace–also owned by Harrahs (like most of the central Strip!)……The venerable Riviera up on the north Strip (owned by Riviera Holdings). And finally the massive Circus Circus complex owned by MGM-Mirage….definitely showing its age. Video by Greg Clarke…..This and other Vegas videos from the channel can be made into DVD–contact if interested….

    Vegas in …
    Right on!

Vegas in 1985 was a dump

  2. Bartels92 Says:

    No Way, Imperial …
No Way, Imperial Palace NEEDS to stay.
All it needs, is a nice refurbishment, piece by piece.

It is so much more cost efficient to do an interior and exterior renovation than it is to implode.

    Circus Circus was …
Circus Circus was the place I went to with my parents years ago when I was a kid, and it was great fun, I’d hate to see it go, even though it’s a dump. I think Caeser’s Palace (the original building) needs to be demolished before the Tropicana. IP is a dump and should go soon, IMO.

    The vast majority …
The vast majority of “regulars” that make up about 30 - 40% of Vegas’ tourists are weekenders from L.A. and to us, Vegas doesn’t have a homeless problem. There are almost none compared to home. Mix that with single trip takers from around the globe who frequent global cities with BIG homeless populations and you have probably 75% of people that don’t mind the beggars. Vegas ONLY appears dirty to people from middle America. I went before I moved from St. Louis to L.A. and thought it was dirty too

    Las Vegas is about …
Las Vegas is about the moment, the ephemera, the attitude. Yeah, places go … and new places come in. People really complained when Circus Circus first came in because it was attractive to families with children…

I would like to see the manor motor lodges at Circus Circus blow up

    Bally’s won’t go …
Bally’s won’t go down. It has a great location on the strip. People don’t care if the rooms are ugly. They only care about getting a room with a great view of the strip. Same with Imperial Palace

    I love Vegas, been …
I love Vegas, been going ever since I was a baby. Now I’m going there for school (UNLV).

This makes me sad and yearn for the Vegas I knew. The fact that everything is turning for the modern/chic nightclub party motif is kinda upsetting. City Center looks amazing, but also bland, all the different Hotels look the same. Themeing is virtually gone in Vegas.

I hope that when money starts coming in again Vegas will get cleaned up and be like it was before.

    Circus Circus …
Circus Circus probably has the best chance of survival though. Even though the buliding is showing its age, they’ve recently poured millions of money into developing it into a more family oriented casino with the new adventuredome, and midway at circus circus has always been a family favorite. but who knows, they might also just say it and blow it up.

I just saw all of …
I just saw all of those…but felt kinda displaced in the town running around throwing money on everything surrounded by so many homeless ppl, drug addicts and beggers… It kinda got weird… But maybe come back non-regarding… Not sure ’bout that…

  18. skyraider1404 Says:

    The stadium is …
The stadium is indeed named for Sam Boyd (founder of Boyd Gaming)–but the place was originally called “Las Vegas Stadium” when it opened in the early 1970s…It was renamed in the 80s….

The place is pretty old but I have not heard of rumors it will be imploded and a new stadium built–especially in this weak economy……

  19. matts774m Says:

    isnt boyd gambling …
isnt boyd gambling the one owned by sam boyd? in whic Sam Boyd Stadium is named after? i go there evry year for supercross. i heard that was to be imploded and a new sam boyd stadium would bebuilt in its place is this true?

I stayed at the IP …
I stayed at the IP two months ago and will be staying there again in August.Sure it’s not the fanciest hotel/casino out there but who cares?I’m only in my hotel room to sleep.

  22. dan2135 Says:

    yeah its not what …
yeah its not what it used to be im 30 and my parents took me there for the first time at like age 5 and now ive taken my own children there. but its really run down now not like it used to be very nasty inside :-(

  23. LaLouche123 Says:

    The only real …
The only real reason Circus Circus is the list is because MGM Mirage thinks its cheaper to demolish then rebuild rather than refresh while its still standing. IP might be gone by December of this year but that is old news. Topicanna needs to go no help in trying to save that property. I dont see NYNY or Excalibur going anytime soon they are way to popular, to whoever said NYNY and Excalibur was left off the list, they even just finished remodeling the casino at NYNY.
