Jim’s Vacation, Part 4: Utah to Las Vegas

September 7th, 2009

Hello world! I live in NJ, but I love the southwest (especially Utah). This is my first video slideshow, and I’m ecstatic with the results. …And I’m still learning. As soon as I figured out that I could make DVDs, I mothballed my slide projector.

Over 90% of these pictures were shot with a Nikon CoolPix 7600 (including the video clips), and the rest are scans of 35mm slides. I used Adobe Photoshop & Premiere Elements to put everything together. Soundtrack: Narada Collection, Vol. 1.

The entire show is over 15 minutes long, so broke it up into 4 segments:

Part 1: las vegas - Joshua Tree
Part 2: San Diego - Sequoia
Part 3: Yosemite
Part 4: Utah back to Las Vegas

I hope my video slide show inspires others as I have been inspired by others. Enjoy!

Searching for Las Vegas Real Estate

September 6th, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas vacation | 2 Comments »

The friendly state of Nevada, it could be a place you call home or one of your favorite vacation spots. Either way, it’s a great place to be looking for an investment property. Prices are dropping a little, and interest rates are still at a 40-year low!

There is a lot of ways to make money with Las Vegas real estate. If you are a first investment buyer, then seek out a qualified real estate agent. Las Vegas is Nevada’s world famous city. Today it remains one of the top real estate investment locations in the United States with the ever-increasing tourist traffic and convention traffic flooding into the area. There is consistent growth with the population, buildings, and jobs. Which makes for a great place to invest.

With so much to offer and a steady influx of new residents due to the cost of real estate in Las Vegas it is predicted that even with a cooling off of the current market the demand will remain steady for some time. Remember real estate goes in cycles, and Nevada is the perfect city to see this take place like no where else in the nation.

While many rushed into the market to make fast money the cost of real estate eventually topped out, and the slow down of buyers stabilized the market. Most real estate professionals believe that there is still a significant room for growth in the Las Vegas real estate market.

Over the past couple of years the Real Estate Market has taken center stage breaking national sales records with record appreciation rates. Find a good Las Vegas real estate agent, they will probably know more about real estate in Las Vegas than you do. Other services your agent might provide that can benefit you when buying Las Vegas real estate include providing connections with an affordable mortgage lender, experience in foreclosures, repossessions and estate homes, and experience in corporate relocation.

By making intelligent decisions about your Las Vegas real estate, you can assure yourself of economic advancement. A Las Vegas real estate attorney will play the role of a watchdog that can guide a client through the details and paperwork necessary for any house sale in Las Vegas. Whatever your financial goals are, buying Las Vegas real estate will probably be profitable to you.

When looking to invest in residential real estate, notice the neighborhood that the real estate is in. With some basic knowledge of Las Vegas real estate suburbs, you should be able to make a more informed decision.

Choose a Las Vegas real estate agent that will carefully research each new home to fit perfectly, with what you want. Since Las Vegas is such a dynamic city, it is hard to find real estate that cannot be put to profit-making use. The real estate market in Las Vegas has been appreciating at an incredible rate, and will continue to do so in the near future.

Las Vegas real estate suburbs are also good investments. Las Vegas real estate can be affordable if you look just outside of town, away from the strip, unless you are searching for land to build your very own casino? Then you would already have enough experience and would have no need to be reading this article?

There are projects that are breathtaking in design and integrate the best of Las Vegas, with Strip, Valley and mountain views, and true to the style and luxury of Las Vegas.

Also, living or operating in las vegas will exempt you from paying a state tax. This transformation has resulted in Las Vegas becoming a mature city. Nevada real estate agencies offer a selection of properties available for purchase and this is helpful to the real estate investors.

If Las Vegas is your dream, then get out there and buy yourself a little piece of Nevada you can call your home. This really is, the time to start buying real estate in Nevada.

As the saying goes: “Buy when everyone else is selling, and sale when everyone else is buying.”

Will you vacation in Las Vegas when Bush leaves office?

September 5th, 2009

The Bush administration is going to be applying for a license to be able to dump nuclear waste 90 miles from las vegas. This project has already wasted billions of dollars and the facility has not been built. Should we just store this waste, or is there a better solution? Senator Reid has started cutting funding to the Department of Energy to prevent it from being able to build it. Is it fair to cut a department’s funding just to prevent it from doing one project? Should we focus more on a long term solution as opposed to a solution that puts nuclear waste within a short distance of a major city?

when bushes economy is gone i could afford to go there but storing waste near any city is retarded one more reason to ditch him

Las Vegas Vacation Via Foot?

September 3rd, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas vacation | 5 Comments »

My sister and I are planning on taking a trip from San Diego to Las Vegas. Because we are college students of humble means (by humble I mean we don’t even have cars) we are thinking about using the GreyHound Bus to get to and from Las Vega and walking or using the public bus or even a taxi once we get there. Is this a practical idea? Are all the main sites in LV easy to navigate via foot/bus or is it something that should not be considered.

You heard right. Outside the Greyhound bus station walk north a block to Fremont Street. Can’t miss it because it’s the Fremont Experience. Walk through there to las vegas Blvd which is a block or two after Fremont ends. Catch the Deuce double decker bus. It will take you all along the strip and stops at just about every hotel along the strip. The cost is $3.00 one way or $7.00 for a 24 hr pass. That would be cheapest way for you to get around. I wouldn’t stay in the downtown hotels. Once there you can get all around the strip as long as you stay in the main area of the strip.

las vegas vacation with my kid and dad?

how much does it cost per night at circus circus hotel in las vegas? I am going on vavation there in july with my dad and 9 yr old daughter and want to stay at a resonable priced hotel with a pool preferably with a slide. what’s there to do in vegas for a 9 yr old? and how much are the stuff to do there?
at strasophere…is that roller coaster real scary? and is the wet n wild in las vegas like the one in orlando?

You are right about Circus Circus being inexpensive, but it comes with a cost. We stayed a couple of years ago at the Excaliber. It was nothing fancy to be sure, but generally clean. We visited Circus Circus to see the circus shows (each one a duration of about 10 minutes) and I was completely disgusted by the filth I saw. The carpets were sticky and mushy…I felt like I was back in college at a really dumpy fraternity. I would strongly recommend looking at what you can really afford and choose a different hotel.
The other thing about Circus Circus is that it is at the very far end of the strip…the Excalibur is at the very far other end. This makes walking around very difficult.
As far as things to do, if your daughter likes shopping, etc, she will enjoy Las Vegas. Keep in mind that shopping is entertainment. Caesar’s Palace, the Venetian, all of the hotels really, have free shows, fountains, etc that take place in the hotel, usually in the shopping area. There are also some really unique things to do, such as going to Sigfried and Roy’s Secret Garden (almost like a zoo).
Depending on what you allow your daughter to watch on tv and movies, you will want to be careful about Las Vegas. The Sirens of TI is an outside production that is magnificent, but way too racy for us to allow our kids to see. Keep in mind that sex and gambling is what Las Vegas is all about. They threw away the whole "family friendly" thing a long time ago. There will be billboards of nearly naked women everywhere. That said, most people were very considerate when they saw our children around - I might even say moreso then normal.
It is a neat place, but it is a playground for adults, not kids and you need to keep that in mind.
I would, however, strongly recommend staying somewhere other than Circus Circus.

Quote in Las Vegas Vacation? "They don’t have games you’re used to Clark!"?

August 30th, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas vacation | 4 Comments »

I’m trying to remember the quote from the movie "las vegas vacation." Clark and Cousin Eddie go to some out-of-the-way casino and they’ve got a bunch of redneck games and Cousin Eddie tells Clark (something to the effect) "They’ve don’t have your regular games here!"

Or "You can buy a bullet, and rent a gun."

10 Things You Must Know About Handling Your Money In Las Vegas

August 30th, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas vacation | No Comments »

Are you planning a las vegas vacation?

If so, then you need to know the way to handle your money in Las Vegas. Las Vegas isn’t called the city of ‘lost wages’ for nothing. If you’re not careful, it’s almost like your money just slips through your fingers almost like magic.

Did you know if you take out your money at one kind of ATM you could lose the same amount of your withdrawal in fees? It’s important to always be aware of the fees that are involved whenever your money changes hands in Las Vegas. If you are ever in doubt then simply ask a local. They’ll know the places to go and the places you should avoid.

If you don’t know how to handle your finances in Las Vegas, chances are you will end up a lot worse off in your hip pocket.

A little pre-planning and research will ensure that you pay the very least that you have to to exchange foreign currency, cash cheques and to get a cash advance.

Of course, if you’re on vacation the last thing you want to do is to get a high interest loan while away only to return back home fro your vacation destination owing the original amount of money you borrowed PLUS 100 percent interest or more.

Here are some helpful tips for handling your money on your Las Vegas vacation.

1. Travellers cheques are not a problem at casinos, restaurants, hotels and shops in Las Vegas. You will be required to show photo id for verification.

2. Every major casino is happy to exchange your foreign currency. They will of course charge you a fee in the form of a discount from the official exchange rate applicable and for this reason you will get the best deal by using a commercial bank for this kind of banking transaction.

3. Unsecured loans are difficult to obtain in Las Vegas.

4. Many casinos will give you a credit voucher to gamblers who apply for a loan in advance of their Las Vegas vacation.

5. Most large casinos have ATMS (automatic teller machines) where you can withdraw cash from your bank account or credit card account. If you are withdrawing a cash advance you must be aware that some financial institutions charge a very hefty fee for withdrawals.

6. Cheque cashing agencies specialise in interstate money orders, savings accounts and personal cheques. You will need identification and the fee will vary depending on the complexity of the transaction.

7. If you are expecting a tax refund las vegas has instant tax refund stands. What you are essentially doing is taking out a short term loan at an extremely high interest rate. The cost of the loan can be as high as 100 percent! This type of transaction should definitely be used with caution.

8. Las Vegas pawn shops – once again, these should always be used with caution. Don’t ever hand over something to a pawn broker that is of extreme personal value unless you can really live without it.

9. Always make sure your wallet is in a safe place. Vegas is also famous for pickpockets. Women should have purses that zip shut and have long straps on handbags so that they can go diagonally across your shoulder. Men should keep their wallet in their front pocket at all times. Keep your purse, wallet or bum bag with you at all times. Never put it down anywhere.

10. Keep a very close eye on your poker chips at casino tables. There are actually professional people who grab your chips when you are not looking.
