What is the best place to get married in Las Vegas which is affordable yet traditional and decent?

September 7th, 2009

I am helping my friend organize her wedding. She wants to get married In las vegas but is looking for an affordable yet traditional and decent place. This is a very intimate occasion and only five of us will witness the wedding. She is looking to have the reception at the same venue or at least near to the venue of the ceremony.

I agree, there are so many options that are so personal - other peoples version of "traditional" or "decent" can vary greatly - especially for Vegas, where weddings can go from cheesy to extravagant very quickly.

If you or she wants to save $ for themselves or the guests, try to get a hotel package deal that will save enough $ to help afford a bit more for the wedding - try www.bigdealgetaways.com & you can get a Las Vegas package at a nice hotel for $199 for 3 days 2 nights plus $500 in free gambling $.

Making their stay more cost effective will help leave other monies for the wedding & party after.

Also - have a GOOD photographer will help a lot in preserving the kind of memories the bride & groom want to remember years from you. That will make a huge difference as well.

What are some good songs to listen to while driving to Las Vegas?

September 3rd, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas | 9 Comments »

My friends and I are road tripping it to Las Vegas next month for my 21st birthday. I wanted to put together a fun playlist, preferably some songs about Vegas.
Any suggestions?

OKAY - realizing that this totally depends on your taste in music - but here goes

Vegas Related:

"Viva Las Vegas" - Elvis (Springsteen does a good cover of this)
"40 Miles to Vegas" - Southern Culture on the Skids (rockabilly) (love this song!)
"las vegas Dealer" - Gomez (alternative Brit rock)
"Vegas" - Sara Bareilles
"Waking up in Vegas" - Katy Perry
"Pretty Vegas" - INXS
"Leaving Las Vegas" - Sheryl Crow
"Don’t Make Me Come To Vegas" - Tori Amos (slower song, but I love her, so she makes my list)
"Sin City" - AC/DC

Not Vegas Related, but Vegas feel (my opinion of course) and good for driving thru the desert:

"Little Less Conversation" by Elvis (you can find a ton of remixes of this)
"Luck Be a Lady" Frank Sinatra
"History Repeating" - (Propellerheads &) Shirley Bassey
"Soul City" - also Southern Culture on the Skids
"Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" - Chris Isaak
"The Rockerfella Skank" - Fatboy Slim
"Feeling Good" - Nina Simone (has that martini feel to it - Muse does a current cover of it and Adam Lambert too, if that’s your flavor)
"Having An Average Weekend - Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet (and the name of the song alone is pretty damn ironic)
"Misirlou" - Dick Dale (I like the Single Version) (for some reason I associate surf music and rockabilly with Las Vegas …will have to explore the WHY of that further) (OR, you could opt for the Black Eyed Peas "Pump It" since they sample Misirlou)
"Battle Without Honor of Humanity" - Tomoyasu Hotei (since I’ve hit on "Songs Quinton Tarrantino helped make popular) (this is always a fun song to start a mix)
"Ecstacy of Gold" - Ennio Morricone (strange choice, I know, but probably cause it epitomized "western" to me and seems perfect for driving through the desert AND cause I watched the Bellagio fountains "perform" to this song" - you could opt for the Metallica version instead :-) )

Going to Las Vegas in April and want to see the Grand Canyon, Which company does the best excursions?

September 1st, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas | 4 Comments »

There are lots of different companies that do day excursions to the Grand Canyon from las vegas.. Who does the best tours? Wanted some good recommendations or company’s to avoid. Will probably want to see the Hoover Dam too.
Also which is better to visit? south or west rim?

Try Scenic Airlines. They’re a really good company and when I’ve done about 20+ round trip LAS>GCN flights with them
http://www.scenic.com/
Do yourself a favor and regard with extreme skepticism any and all claims made by helicopter tour companies
[and Papillion is a good one ] regarding their ability to "land in the Grand Canyon"
There are a couple of good reasons to be skeptical :
The Colorado River flows 277 river miles thru the Grand Canyon as it makes it’s way from Lees Ferry in the north to the Grand Wash Cliffs in the south
Of that 277 river miles only the first two are not within GCNP
Why is that important ?
Because it is against both NPS & FAA regulations to fly below the Rim anywhere within GCNP [ it is VFR after all ]
or to land anywhere in GCNP unless on official business>like S&R
In addition there is a huge No Fly Zone over the Heart of the Canyon from river mile 76.5 to rm 99.5.
The No Fly Zone has a hard deck of I believe 12500′ msl and extends miles back from the Rims
Why is that important ?
Because as a first time visitor the part of the Canyon that you really want to see is the Heart of it because that’s where all the classic GCNP geology is present ,[ it disappears up and down River] it’s where all the best views are and it’s where all the hotels and other "civilized" amenities are
Think about it
When the AT&SF RR in conjunction with Fred Harvey decided to build a rail spur and hotels on the S.Rim they could have picked any number of spots .The fact that they picked the spot that they finally did is instructive
So while tecnnically speaking a tour company could concievably legally land at the bottom of a dramatic canyon landscape that abuts the Park>it’s nowhere near where you really want to be .
Have fun

How can my daugther sell her Las Vegas holiday quickly?

August 30th, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas | 5 Comments »

My daughter booked a holiday in las vegas for next Tuesday to get married. Now she has to cancel because her partner can’t travel without a Visa and it’s too late to get one, what should she do?

Not enough information given. If she just reserved a room she can cancel it now with no charge. That is if she reserved it directly with the hotel. If she bought a package from a travel site then she is out of luck unless she bought the insurance. Airline tickets if purchased economy on most major airlines can be changed for a $100 fee per ticket. If Soudhwest there is no charge.

Getting Married Without A Hitch In Las Vegas

August 30th, 2009

Posted by admin in las vegas | No Comments »

As the Beatles said, “All you need is love, love, Love is all you need” Immortalizing the famous words of this song, love is really all you need to get married in Las Vegas.

It’s no surprise then, that Las Vegas is considered the wedding capital of the world, with over 122,000 marriage licenses being issued every year! They call it “Getting married without a hitch- Las Vegas style”.

Getting married is an experience in itself, but getting married in Las Vegas, takes the whole experience into another dimension. The official government agency that issues marriage licenses in las vegas, the Clark County Marriage License Bureau, is open everyday, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to midnight. How’s that for service! It’s no wonder they manage to issue so many licenses a year.

Forget boring “Wedding on the Beach” and other mundane wedding themes. In Las Vegas nobody would raise an eyebrow if you exchanged vows dressed as Star Trek characters or in Medieval costumes. Even the chapels get into the theme act in Las Vegas. Not only do they help you with your wedding vows and religious ceremonies, but they will also suggest a variety of ceremony themes and also help you choose your costumes and organize the décor. Most chapels even have costumes that you can rent. Professional, experienced staff is on hand to help you with the most simple to the most outré requests. Wedding chapels also offer bridal couples a variety of custom-designed packages to suit every budget and every style.

Plenty of costume shops and florists dot the area as well as shops that sell or rent tuxedos, gowns and any other accessory you can think of. Don’t forget the rings! It’s probably a better idea to pass on the idea of hiring wedding rings and buy them instead. You’d definitely want something more than photographs to commemorate this unforgettable experience.

For those looking to beat the record of “Quickest Wedding Ceremony”, Las Vegas even offers you a choice of drive-thru weddings. A word of caution here - don’t stop for the fries if you are aiming for the record.

So if you are looking for a unique one-of-a-kind wedding, make plans to go to Las Vegas, where all it takes is love, valid identification and $55 to get married.
